Begin Again, how to start from scratch. On March 30, 2018 by Carrie Catlin
When my kids were little we had a book with the song of Michael Finneagan. At the end of every page were the words “begin again.” I would pause just before reading it until they couldn’t stand it and someone would yell “BEGIN AGAIN!” Everyone would laugh.
But sometimes it’s not so funny, you know. Begin again. For an adult that means that something has ended, perhaps it means a move, a relationship or sometimes, a business.
Many of you reading this came from a business you believed in, you sold a product you love. Things happened, change was imminent. You followed a leader you respect and here you are. Begin again.
You might feel as though you’re beginning this brand new business, your own business, from scratch. So let’s think on that a minute.
When you make something from scratch you begin (again) with the ingredients. Flour, sugar, butter….
But what are the ingredients to starting your new business from the ground up?
A product, contacts, attitude
- You have chosen a great product! I’ve been using it myself and love the way my skin feels. It’s very light and refreshing. I love the way it smells and that it is so natural! Take a minute next time you’re using your products to decide why you love them. Write it down, journal it. Develop your own adjectives based on your own experience. That’s what your potential customers are going to want to know, how do YOU feel about it. Bring yourself to a place of true belief in what you’re selling.
- If you’ve come from a previous direct selling model you likely have a ton of customers who are left without a product. For those of you that came from a company that closed down, your customers are running out of their skincare, they’ll have to use something new. Don’t’ hesitate to contact them. They’re used to your superb customer service and your consistency. You are NOT bothering anyone. Contact everyone, even those whom you haven’t heard from in a while. You’re offering something brand new, NO ONE has ever tried it before. You have every reason in the world to touch base. If you are brand new and don’t have a customer “base,” it’s time to make a list. Create categories for your list. My list would have titles like “Church, Gym, Homeschool Basketball, Homeschool Group, School, Family….ect.” After you’ve made this list of categories start writing down names from each category. You can also pour through your social media accounts to see who you know, but keep in mind, not everyone is there and you don’t want to leave anyone out.
- Have you ever heard the saying “attitude is everything.” The reason that saying exists is because attitude is everything. Keep your attitude positive by surrounding yourself with positive people. Talk to people who support you, write an affirmation and put it on your bathroom mirror. Not only will you feel more successful, you’ll actually be more successful. People are drawn to positivity like a magnet. And, of course, the opposite is true of negative people.
These are your raw ingredients. So much more has to happen to make your business successful. Listen to your director, attend training (or watch virtually.) Always focus on learning and never give up.
You’ve got exactly what it takes to make your own dreams a reality.
